New & Returning Patients

Welcome to Somerset West Chiropractic Clinic! Whether this is your first visit or you’re returning after a break, we take the time to get a full view of your health and history so we can provide the best possible care.

Before Your Appointment

To make your first visit as smooth as possible, please complete our Online Intake Form or bring the following information to your appointment:

  • Current medications and dosages
  • Diagnosed conditions (with dates)
  • Past operations or medical procedures (with dates)

Completing the form ahead of time allows your chiropractor to review your details before your visit, but don’t worry — if you can’t complete it online, we’ll go through everything together at your appointment.

First Appointment – Initial Consultation

Your chiropractic journey begins with a thorough consultation and examination.

  1. Health Questionnaire: We’ll send you an online form to give your chiropractor a clear picture of your health and symptoms.
  2. Discussion: On the day, we’ll talk about your symptoms, how they started, previous treatments, and what makes them better or worse.
  3. Physical Examination: Your chiropractor will assess your spine, joints, and muscles, checking for tension, inflammation, or restricted movement. Neurological and functional tests may also be performed.
  4. X-Rays (if needed): We have state-of-the-art digital X-Ray facilities on-site. X-rays help us detect injuries, arthritis, scoliosis, or other conditions that may affect your care.

After this assessment, your chiropractor may perform a gentle first adjustment to see how your spine responds. This is considered part of the examination.

Report of Findings

After your initial visit, your chiropractor will review all your notes, examination findings, and any X-rays.

They will then create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your symptoms and goals.

Typical Care Phases:

Phase 1 – Restore Motion

  • Focus on spinal areas with the most dysfunction
  • Includes specific at-home stretches
  • Frequency: 1–3 adjustments per week for 4–8 weeks

Phase 2 – Strength & Stability

  • Build strength in weak or vulnerable areas
  • Complementary exercises to support posture and spinal function
  • Frequency: ~1 adjustment per week for 4–8 weeks

Phase 3 – Maintenance & Wellness

  • Many patients achieve full symptom relief and increased mobility
  • Some continue with regular care to maintain spinal health, especially if degeneration is present
  • Ongoing exercises and stretches are recommended
What Does Treatment Involve?

Chiropractic care is personalised and multi-faceted, usually including:

  • Spinal Adjustments: Gentle, precise movements to restore joint motion, reduce nerve stress, and encourage natural healing.
  • Education & Lifestyle Advice: Guidance on posture, ergonomics, and movement habits.
  • Exercises & Stretches: Strengthen muscles, support spinal function, and prevent future issues.

Adjustments may involve small, targeted movements to specific joints, aimed at improving alignment, mobility, and nervous system function. They are safe, precise, and designed to retrain your spine and improve overall wellbeing.
